As we approach the final days of the 2025-26 school year, there is much to celebrate across our district. Classrooms and campuses are filled with learning, performances, activities, and the excitement that comes with marking another successful year together.
In classrooms across the district, I have witnessed the dedication of our teachers as they pilot new math curriculum, the perseverance of students as they complete end of year assessments and have admired classroom walls and hallways filled with evidence of learning and growth. This week I watched 5th grade students thoughtfully write reflection essays as they prepare for promotion and begin thinking about the next chapter ahead in middle school and 3rd graders bring their fantasy stories to life through writing and illustrations. Another class of 3rd graders is eagerly waiting for the very first pip from chicks hatching in an incubator, a reminder that curiosity and wonder are alive and well in our schools.
This spring season has also been one of appreciation and recognition. During Teacher Appreciation Week, Classified School Employee Week, and School Principal’s Day, we celebrated our staff who make a difference in the lives of students every day. We also had the privilege during the May 18th Board of Education meeting to honor 15 certificated and classified retirees whose combined service to MUSD exceeds 300 years, a remarkable legacy of care, commitment, and dedication to our students and community.
As we look forward to the many traditions, promotions and graduations that recognize important milestones in the lives of our students, these moments remind us of what is possible when schools, families, and communities work together. Thank you for your partnership and unwavering commitment to our students. Congratulations to the class of 2026 and I wish you all a safe and restful summer.
